Police fire tear gas, pepper spray at Richmond protesters in standoff near police headquarters

RICHMOND - Police fired tear gas at protesters in Virginia's state capital early Monday after an hours-long standoff sparked by an incident in which a city police vehicle struck several demonstrators on Saturday night.
WASHINGTON - More than 60 million residents of U.S. cities have been placed under curfews in recent days, as cities burned in protest of the death of another black man in police custody. It is a measure pandemic-weary government officials hoped would deter violence and stanch the damage to their battered cities.
